Major William A. Trimble (1786-1821) was the brother of Allen Trimble, who was governor of Ohio in 1822 and 1826-1830. William Trimble practiced law in Highland County, Ohio, after graduating from Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky. He served in the 4th Infantry in the War of 1812, where he was captured by the British in action against Detroit. He also served in the 8th Infantry with General Andrew Jackson after the war.
